World Environment day, 'Raise your voice, not the sea level'

Thursday, 5th June

The United Nations Environment Program aims to raise the level of concern regarding the rise of the sea.

DEQP poses a question to the public asking weather an individual has ever stopped and wondered how much pollution one has contributed to the landscape, from the food we eat, plastic bags we use, and transportation that takes us places, and wondered how we can help reduce the assault on the environment.

DEQP research found that each day a person creates about a kilogram of waste, of which 20% is plastic; the ever increasing amount being dumped, releases methane gas, which contributes to global warming.

The UNEP points out that research for the past 100 years, shows the sea level has increased by as much as 10-25 centimeters and forecasts that the sea will rise another 50 centimeters in 86 years time– the year 2100.

To raise the issue of the rising sea level with Thai people and the lifestyle that contributes to global warming, the annual event will be held between 4th-6th June, 2014 at the Royal Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon. On June 5th, HRH Princess Srirasmi will preside at the opening ceremony.

To encourage people to adopt an environmentally friendly lifestyle, a Green Card will be issued to visitors at the event so as to collect points for the purchase of environmentally friendly products. (The Thai Financial Post)
